RE: Renko Bars Script
marko

i just applied the renko script to an M1 chart and set the refreshrate to 0 and MT4 slows down to a crawl. i have to wait a couple of secs everytime i try to move a window or open a menu for the GUI to actual respond. and am running MT4 on windows XP SP3 on parallels for mac on a 2011 mac book pro quad core. and it usually works just fine, but that renko script or rather i think i should write the 'darn' MT4 script engine is not optimized.

the settings are as follows:

BoxSize = 30
RenkoTimeFrame = 3
VolumeHistory = false
RefreshRate = 1

one of the many reasons why i want to switch to Multicharts. Undecided

anyway, what i can i do to make MT4 run faster?

As with most Metatrader scripts, you need to have the M1 chart you used to create the offline Renko chart open in order to feed it new data. The RefreshRate parameter should be set to under 5. Setting it to 0 may result in a sluggish performance on older computers (too many simultaneous calculations), so if you ever experience that try 1 (refers to chart refresh rate in seconds).

RE: Renko Bars Script
also, now i have the following problem: after turning the script off, my regular live M15 chart is corrupted, meaning, the latest candles are normal, but everything up to the time when i stopped the renko script (i created a M15 renko) displays as renko boxes and not candlesticks.

how on earth!?? how do i get the chart to display just like it used to before attaching a M15 renko?
ok well i found the history files and deleted the M15 one. opened a new chart window. it's fixed now. everything as before. i hate MT4. Sad honestly, marko, i am amazed not only that you had the patience to do all this development for such a crummy platform, but that your tools turned out so well. apparently MT4 is flexible enough to script almost anything but the script engine is a disaster. they should have used a JVM instead and implemented an EasyLanguage interpreter in Java or Scala. anyways. off i go tweaking MS and TB.

RE: Renko Bars Script
ok well very strange, after multiple MT4 shutdowns/relaunches, there's no GUI delay anymore. and i didn't change the settings for the renko charts that i had previously created but not deleted (i deleted a bunch of other renko/history charts).
-----

my bad. my ignorance of how MT4 works is embarassing. i reopened the offline files directly without realizing they do not update. so i guess, every time one wants to display a renko charts, one has to go through the process of attaching the renko script to M1 and then file-->open offline chart.

so, back to square 1.

RE: Renko Bars Script
ATR (14) looks too high for M1 TF charts feed. I would take 5 days ATR (5) for answer. If ATR (5) reading 10 on M30 live chart make 10 pips Renko boxes and miracle could happen. I have a long experience with Renko! It is my second wife.
Another good Renko box size calculation is:
Put on live chart ATR(480) & EMA128 (eg. H1 TF) you want to get results for Renko boxes. Instal in one bottom box ATR (480) and EMA128 (Previous Indicator's Data) Example:
Get ATR reading 17 and EMA reading 19. 17 + 19 = 36 : 2 = 18. Make Renko box size 18 pips on offline chart for H1 TF live chart. That's it!
