A major addition to the 2019 edition of PivotBuilder are Extensions, an ecosystem of add-ons which extends the framework's pivot building mechanism onto data and add-ons other than price action. The very first of these has already been released - it extends PivotBuilder to the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) oscillator, allowing users to build and trade strategies based on interaction of the oscillator line and pivots surrounding it.

Thinking Beyond Price

As the screenshot above shows, you can now use PivotBuilder to build a trading system based on price action or any other add-on. PivotBuilder will consider any data input - be it close of price period, volume, or the CCI oscillator - and build a pivot-based grid around it, as per your parameter preferences. All of the power tools that let you control pivot behavior when attaching PivotBuilder to price are also available when extending it to any other add-on. In other words, you can expect the same sort of adaptive, dynamic pivot building system across any data input source.

PivotBuilder + CCI = Tapping the Momentum Potential

CCI is a popular, and reliable momentum-driven oscillator (especially with higher Period values), which is why we chose it as our first 3rd party add-on to extend PivotBuilder onto. In the screenshot, the thick white line is the CCI oscillator line, the green is PivotBuilder's Trigger Line, and the rest are PivotBuilder's Pivot Lines. Recall that the core of PivotBuilder strategy building orients around interaction of Trigger line and any number of the Pivot lines (being crossed either from above, below, or both). With this approach we can do something we cannot readily do with price alone - trade momentum strength and weakness, when the oscillator enters overbought or oversold zones of its vertical axis (in CCI, this is typically +150/-150), or divergence with price action, potentially signaling trend exhaustion. PivotBuilder CCI, along with all other Extensions is available, free of charge to every PivotBuilder client, and bundled with every purchase. Below is another example of the PivotBuilder CCI Extension, this time on Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) 5-minute chart.

PivotBuilder API: Infinite Possibilities Beyond CCI

We built the PivotBuilder CCI Extension using the PivotBuilder API Function, included as part of the general PivotBuilder Trading Framework. This means as long as you are a PivotBuilder customer, you can use the API yourself to extend PivotBuilder onto any add-on, provided you have access to its source code or function. Technical requirements are minimal since we provide the code that you copy/paste, with only minor modifications to account for the 3rd party add-on you plan on targeting. That said, Extensions are our major focus with PivotBuilder for the foreseeable future due to tremendous amount of strategy building and edge finding potential.

New Order Management Features

The latest PivotBuilder update also introduces Daily Profit/Loss Limits - these optional order management features allow traders to easily program PivotBuilder to stop trading after a target daily profit or loss have been reached. Available in the Long-Entry (LE) and Short-Entry (SE) strategy components.

  • New parameter: Stop.Daily.Profit – Value (in dollars) representing daily profit target, after which all open positions will be liquidated. No additional signal-driven orders will be opened for remainder of the day. Signals are silenced (not traded) until the next day, at which time short or long signal will be executed as market order, if market conditions for that signal still prevail.

Latest Platform Support for TradeStation 10/9.5 and MultiCharts

PivotBuilder's manual has been revised to cover all new features.
